St. Xavier's School, Bathinda is an affiliate of the registered Society of Pilar, Punjab - Haryana, a branch of the Society of Pilar, GOA. The latter runs a number of other social activities like dispensaries, grihini schools, orphanages, balwadis etc. St. Xavier's School, Bathinda was opened in 1983, as a response to the pressing educational needs of the town of Bathinda and the surrounding villages. Originally an all-boys school, it opened its portals to girls in April 1990. The aim of the school is not only to prepare the students academically, but also to cater to the all-round development of the child, especially its moral and intellectual qualities. In this way, the school strives to draw out the best from each individual and enable its pupil to blossom into mature citizens of our country. The school is owned and managed by a religious group, which is a legitimate right provided for minority communities in our Constitution.
St. Francis Xavier who was born in Spain in 1506 to a noble family, was influenced by Ignatious Loyola. Ignatious Loyola who started the Society of Jesus, recruited Francis Xavier into this order.St. Francis Xavier who landed in Goa during 1542 specifically to stem the rot amongst the faithful, in a short period of time caused a major awakening. He was instrumental in building many churches and institutions in Goa and elsewhere. He travelled across Malacca, China and Japan.
St. Xavier’s School, Bathinda is a humble medium of the Society of Pilar to reach out to youngsters in a bid to enable them to become worthy citizens of our society. Catering to thousands of students from around the locality, down the years, the institution has etched an illustrious example of striving for holistic growth of young girls and boys. With the thrust of facilitating integral development of the human personality; an integration of the spiritual, moral, affective, physical, academic, aesthetic, communitarian and social dimensions of a person’s life; we strive to arrive at a fine blend of imagination, creativity, innovation, critical sense and an attitude and disposition of service. The Management of the institution, in the past and at present are always striving to arrive at new horizons of the ever changing scenario of contemporary times. However, the age-old values of love, service, sincerity, hard work and being humane have always been the foundational force to lead the way.
Victor Hugo once famously remarked "He who opens a school door, closes a prison." Education today is not merely opening the minds of our learners to academic excellence alone, but also nurturing the values in their impressionable minds, while they can yet be moulded. The current pandemic has revealed both the dark and the bright side of human nature. It has thrown mankind into a whirlpool of confusion, turning our lives on our heads, but it's chaos has also compelled us to look into the hollowness of our society, the dark abyss of our selfishness from which we still need to be liberated. It is said "Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today." and rightly so. There are deep and insightful lessons to be learnt from our new situation, and from there on, we need to embark on a new journey of bringing to birth - a new world, with new sets of values that place a premium on respect for nature, sustaining its ecosystems, building networks of humane communities, and above all putting others before us. "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire" said the famous poet W. B Yeats. Let us pledge ourselves to be illuminated by this new humanism that needs to engulf the world, and let this fire be ignited in turn, in the hearts and minds of the students we nurture, so that even after our students having left the portals of our institution, the following words of Albert Einstein may resonate forth: "Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school". It is our ardent hope that the education we strive to impart may stay with them for life. May the young lives we nurture today at St. Francis Xavier's, be the shining stars of tomorrow. From the desk of the Coordinator for Education, Education Apostolate
Spending nearly two decades with children, one wonders what draws a child to laughter and happiness and the answer is rather simple than we think- love, unconditional love, the way God sees us. God did not give us perfection, it gave us love. We at St Xavier’s make humble attempts to instill the value of universal love through Education, we encourage our teachers to create a loving environment so our children laugh and stay happy and grow up as devoted Servants to humanity. In changing times with parents spending less and less time with children and conflicting surroundings, our role to bring a compassionate environment has increased, and I strongly believe that a secure and loving environment makes every child excel not only academically but also makes him/her a happy loving person. So let us together make our school a strong foundation for all our students.
For me education does not mean presence of ability to read or write, it means more than that, it is to move beyond the confines of the traditional school curriculum and to teach our children to embrace the adventure of life as a gift from divinity. To teach them to become resilient to be someone unique and cuddle in love of universal principle of equality and brotherhood, to face the quest of life as the owners and not as a mere victims of destiny, to make them as ownership of who and what they want to be and script their life where they refuse the circumstances to dictate, to play a life story of success. In our institution the thrust of education lies on simple understanding - life as a special call from God, where there is no rich or poor, great or small, more or less worthy, success

Dads are most ordinary men turned by love into heroes, adventurers, story-tellers, and singers of song.
Like today, problems persisted in those times also. But we can always reach our destination with strength and determination, irrespective of time. So keep struggling, till we reach our destination.
